WHY WE'RE FUNDRAISING WITH THE JIMMY FUND WALK TO FIGHT CANCER

Francis (Frank) Edward Flynn, 87, of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, and father of five died on March 29, 2024, surrounded by his family after a short illness.

Frank is survived by his wife of 23 years Maureen Altongy Flynn, his five children and many others who were fortunate to have his fatherly support and love, their spouses, and seven grandchildren. Before marrying Maureen, Frank was married to Cornelia Flynn (nee Chilstedt) of Quincy, MA for 34 years.  Frank and Cornelia resided on Arbutus Avenue in Chelmsford for 30 years and raised their family there before Cornelia’s death in 1999.  Their home on Arbutus Avenue was known for being filled with love, laughter, generosity, and creativity, and it was a beloved second home for the friends of their children.

Frank was born in Somerville, MA in 1937, the only child of Francis Dennis Flynn of Boston, MA and Margaret Mary Flynn (nee Collins) who emigrated from Ireland. After graduating from Malden Catholic High School in 1954, he entered the U.S. Airforce in 1956, serving in Morocco as Airman First Class, where he launched a jazz radio show that deepened a life-long love of the genre. After serving for four years, Frank went on to graduate from Boston College with a business degree and to have a distinguished 35-year career Honeywell/Bull, opening production facilities in Arizona and Puerto Rico. Frank was admired for his acerbic humor and innumerable stories about his childhood in Somerville, his travels, and his accomplishments later in his life.

Frank is survived by his eldest son Brendan (Lenny) Flynn, his wife Kimberly Flynn and their children Audrey and Caulin who reside in Lowell, MA; son Christopher Flynn and his wife Lori Flynn of Cypress TX; daughter Elizabeth Wolff and her husband Nicolas Wolff of New York City; son David Flynn, his wife Heather Flynn and their three sons whoa all reside in Seattle, WA;  daughter Diane Sylvester and her partner Damaso Reyes of Barcelona, Spain; and his beloved son-in-law Brian Altongy, his wife Lori Altongy and their two of Bolton, MA.
