Dr. Abel is a hematologic oncologist and health services researcher. He is the Director of the Older Adult Hematologic Malignancy (OHM) Program, a specialized research and clinical service that addresses the needs of patients with blood cancers who are age 75 and older. The program is focused not only on identifying the best treatments for older patients with hematologic malignancies, but also on managing any other health and wellness issues they face. He also serves as Co-Chair of the Dana-Farber Ethics Advisory Committee, which provides ethics consultation to Dana-Farber clinicians, patients, or family members, develops hospital policies related to patient care and ethics, and facilitates professional education about medical ethics.
