WHY WE'RE FUNDRAISING WITH THE JIMMY FUND WALK TO FIGHT CANCER

Harvey Mamon, MD, PhD is the Chief of Gastrointestinal Radiation Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute / Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He works hand in hand with medical oncology and surgery to provide expert, multi-disciplinary care to patients with gastrointestinal cancers.

Dr. Mamon’s research focuses on developing a new method to detect gastrointestinal tumor DNA in the blood using a test called a “blood biopsy”. Blood biopsies are designed to identify small amounts of DNA shed by tumors into the bloodstream, but detection is difficult amidst the large amount of normal DNA in the circulation resulting from the recycling of blood cells. Dr. Mamon aims to develop a blood test that would help physicians identify if a patient has any cancer cells remaining after surgery that would require additional treatment (such as chemotherapy or radiation). This test could also shed light on whether a patient is responding to therapy or if they have become resistant to it, and potentially help to identify additional treatment options.

Philanthropic support enables Dr. Mamon and his team to make progress in the fight against cancer. Your support goes directly to Dr. Mamon. We welcome your support! You may make a secure online gift on this page, or if you prefer to send a check, please direct it to:
