Our physician-scientists lead research efforts are increasing the scientific understanding of IBC and creating new options for treatment.
IBC is a rare, fast-moving form of breast cancer, comprising about 2-5% of cases. It can be challenging to diagnose as often there is no mass or lump. This highly aggressive disease is difficult to detect at an early stage and 30% of patients are diagnosed with stage IV disease. Research on inflammatory breast cancer is essential to advance the knowledge of this rare form of cancer in order to drive the discovery of new diagnostic tools and treatment options.
