By participating in the 2024 Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai, our team is making every step count toward the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer.
This was Courtney's speech at the 2024 PMC Ride at Fenway where Chloe was a pedal partner and sums up why I will always work my hardest for the Jimmy Fund to give back a slice of all that they gave my family.
"Hi everyone! Thanks for riding today. This is Chloe, who at 7 years old, was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma in her right leg. On her exact birthday she headed into Children’s Hospital to begin her 42 week chemo therapy plan and soon after 6 week, 5 days a week radiation plan. We entered the Jimmy Fund scared and in shock but quickly realized they were our new family. From the nurses to the doctors to the child life specialist, it is a magical place that helps families deal with the scariest time in their lives. I pledged the day my family set foot in the Jimmy Fund we would raise any money twe could so that every family could get the same care we experienced, We ride, we walk, we run. We know that every single cent will go to something of value to every patient and family.
Chloe is now 10. She is on an every four month scan and visit plan and while we are out of the worst of it and she has been cancer free- we love every time we can come back and visit old friends. As a mother I wanted to take this experience and find the silver linings so that Chloe could look back on this and know she can conquer ANYTHING. Every time we enter that parking garage on Brookline ave, we are reminded of a few things - our strength and positivity when you feel like you have none, that we can do hard things, the power of community and that things absolutely can always be worse. So….we walk, we run and we RIDE- for those who have the battle wounds, those who can’t and those currently in the fight. Thank you for riding for Chloe and the warriors at the Jimmy Fund."
In this case, join us to walk or donate if you are inclined. We can personally promise you, every single dollar goes to something of value whether it be research, equipment or supplies to make slime (Chloe's personal favorite) and you should know you are making a HUGE difference.
