I always dreamed about running “The Boston Marathon”, since I started running 23 years ago. The first time I heard about it, it was through a co-worker while I was still living in Brazil.
I had the pleasure of running Boston for Dana Farber 2024, 2023 and 2022. The experience of training with DMFC, learning the work they do and why they do, made me proud of being a part of that community and having the opportunity to raise funds and help them and our future. So, I will run Boston with then again in 2025!
Preparing for the marathon was a tough job, raising the funds was even a tougher one. Since I don’t have long time friends here in the United States or a very big community that I can count on to donate. I worked really hard to raise the funds for Dana Farber, I never baked so much in my life, or bought so much flour, chocolate, etc. When I got the email in September asking if I want to be a part of Dana Farber again, and raise funds for them again, I said yes. I want to be a part of that again, I can make time and commit myself to bake, raise funds and do whatever I need to do, because I believe in a better future, where we will not see so many people suffering from cancer.
I’m running for my family, where I lost so many loved ones to cancer, and also to the ones that didn’t lose the battle but are still battling it. I’m running for the future of everyone! Cancer is a devastating disease that does not ask your permission to appear, just appears and turns your life upside down, and it does not care if you are a kid or if you already had gone through many seasons, it only leaves us baffled, suffering. And many times, the best treatment and all the prayers in the world is not enough. Let’s raise funds to Dana Farber together, to have a better future for our kids, where we hope treatments will be better and maybe even a vaccine preventing it.
I run for my kid’s future, for the next generation, where I hope they can have a better life and not suffer so much because of cancer.
