"Run with your heart not with your legs."
Next year marks my brother Jonathan's *10th year anniversary* since he lost his battle in the fight against cancer. His strength, courage & bravery always persevered over the hand life dealt him. When life gets hard, I remember the optimistic attitude Jonny had while facing terminal cancer. I always recall those country music singalongs on drives to chemo treatment at Dana-Farber or the quick witted jokes he'd tell to strangers. He demonstrated true purpose and used his magnetic personality to spread laughter, light and love to everyone he met. The lessons he instilled in us inspire me to play full out with gratitude and kindness, chase my dreams, follow my heart, think positively and make every day count. Its important to note that I also run for so many other close friends and relatives I've lost to cancer or are still battling this horrible disease. My heart is with them 26.2 miles as well. Together, we're headed toward the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer.
In 2024, hundreds of Dana-Farber runners will take to the streets to participate in the 128th Boston Marathon. Being apart of the Dana-Farber community has filled up my heart far beyond all expectations, impacting me to take more chances and make a difference. Sharing stories and hearing others experiences with cancer, has given me a profound perspective on life. I am humbled to be apart of something much bigger than myself. No matter how hard it gets out there on the course, fighting cancer is tougher.
The Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team runs and raises funds with thousands of special people in mind. From Hopkinton to Boston, we carry thoughts of those people every step of the way. One hundred percent of every dollar raised by the DFMC team supports the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. These funds are fueling some of today's most promising basic cancer research.
