Who can participate?

All golfers must be 14 or older to participate.

I’d like to register with others as a twosome or foursome. How can I make sure we’re scheduled to golf together?

You can create a team of up to four golfers to fundraise and golf together. Designate one participant to be “team captain” and to start a team page. Your other golfers can then search for your team name to join the team. You will have a dedicated team page, in addition to your individual fundraising pages, and your donors may give to either your individual page or to the team. Please note that the individual fundraising minimum of $750 per person still applies. There will be a prize for the top fundraising team as of 4:00 p.m. on event day. When is the deadline for registration?

Online golfer registration will close at the end of the day on Friday, August 14, 2020. However, registration may close sooner if the event reaches maximum capacity, so we encourage golfers to register early.

What is the cancellation policy?

You must cancel before noon on July 31, 2020 to be released from the fundraising minimum requirement of $750. If you do not cancel by July 31, then you are responsible for the fundraising minimum regardless of whether you participate on event day. The registration fee is non-refundable; any funds raised prior to cancellation will not be returned. If the date for the event is postponed, this policy will also apply to the event on the rescheduled date. NOTE: Each golfer is required to agree to the cancellation policy at the time of registration.

I’m unable to attend on August 19, but still want to participate as a golf fundraiser. Can I still support the event?

Absolutely! Please contact, who will create a dedicated fundraising page for you. You are more than welcome to reach out to your local course and explain that you’d like to play 36 holes on one day in support of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund. As long as your golfing takes place before August 19, you are still eligible to receive the event’s top golfer and fundraiser prizes.

How do I start a team?

Start your Sunrise to Sunset team by clicking the start a team button. Once registered, recruit your team and start fundraising!

Is there a limit or minimum to how many people can be on a team?

Yes, there is a maximum of four people per team. Please note: In order to be considered for the top team prize, your team must consist of at least 2 members and you must have created a team page on the website by Wednesday, August 12, 2020.

Can we create our own team name?

Yes, you are able to create your own team. Please use your discretion and select a team name that best represents the Dana-Farber and Jimmy Fund brand. We reserve the right to change any team names deemed inappropriate.

Does each member of my team have to raise the fundraising minimum?

Yes. Each team member participating in the Sunrise to Sunset Jimmy Fund Golf Tournament is responsible for their personal fundraising minimum of $750 (registration excluded). Please note that the fundraising minimum must be on each individual’s fundraising page and not on the team page.

Are we obligated to reach whatever fundraising goal we set for our team?

No. The team fundraising goal is a tool to motivate your team and supporters. Each member of the team is responsible for the individual fundraising minimum of $750.

Can I join or start a team if I’m already registered?

Yes. If you are registered as an individual, but want to join a team:

i. Log in to your Participant Center
ii. Select the “Edit Profile” and then the “Event Options”
iii. Select “Join Team” and search for the team you would like to join

Can general team donations be split among team members?

No. When a donation is made to the team, it can only be moved from the general team fund to one team member. Donations cannot be split among team members. Team Captains will need to contact us to request the transfer of funds.

Do all golfers on my team have to choose the same preferred golf format?


Why should I form a team?

  • Teams are a great way to show unity and make fundraising and golfing more fun—plus the top fundraising team will win a great prize!
  • Teams can be formed in honor or memory of a friend or loved one, or to represent a company, organization, group, or family.

Is participating on a team mandatory?

No. You can golf individually or with a group.

What are my responsibilities as a Team Captain?

  • The main role of a Team Captain is to recruit team members and encourage the team's fundraising efforts. In addition, you will have online access to customize your team's fundraising page, communicate important information to your members, and be a general resource for basic questions.
  • Team captains are also the only ones who can direct donations made to the team page to specific team members, if necessary (see earlier question about splitting team donations).

How will people know I am a Team Captain?

Your name will be listed first on your team’s fundraising page, and you will have a “C” next to your name.

How does our team win the top team prize?

  • The top fundraising team (based on the cumulative fundraising total of all team members) as of 4:00 PM on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 (tournament day) will be awarded the prize at the post-golf reception that evening.
  • Please note: In order to be considered for the top team prize, your team must consist of at least 2 members and you must have created a team page on the website by Wednesday, August 12, 2020.

Can I still be eligible for individual fundraising prizes if I’m on a team?

Yes, each individual in the tournament is eligible to win the individual fundraising prizes, regardless of whether they are on a team. See Fundraising FAQs for more information about these prizes.

What are the fundraising requirements?

As a participant, you must reach the fundraising minimum of $750. We provide many fundraising tips and tools, including a personal fundraising page to help you reach out to your network of family and friends. Please note that the $100 event registration fee does not count toward your fundraising total.

When is the fundraising deadline?

There are a few fundraising deadlines to keep in mind:

  • August 19, 2020: Fundraising totals as of 4:00 p.m. will be considered for top individual and team fundraising prizes selected at the event
  • September 21, 2020: Deadline to meet the $750 fundraising minimum (does not include the $100 registration fee) and the final day to fundraise for the 2020 tournament; your total as of September 21 will be considered for tiered incentive prizes

Are there prizes for the top fundraisers?

Yes! Our top five individual fundraisers and the top team will select from a pool of great prizes, with the top fundraiser selecting first, then the second, and so on. Additionally, all participants who fundraise more than $1,500 will be eligible for one of our incentive prizes.

I run or participate in an existing Jimmy Fund Golf tournament. Can I apply the funds I raise to my tournament?

Thank you for your ongoing support! All funds raised through the Sunrise to Sunset Jimmy Fund Golf Tournament go towards this event and cannot be applied towards your existing Jimmy Fund Golf tournament.

Can I turn in checks and cash?

Please make checks payable to "The Jimmy Fund." Please do not send cash gifts—any cash collected should be converted to a money order or cashier's check payable to "The Jimmy Fund." Complete the Gift Deposit Form, listing that it is for your personal page name, and attach it to any gifts so that we can add it to your fundraising total and acknowledge your donors. You can also bring your checks/money orders with you on the day of the event or mail them to the following address:

Where does the money go?

Eighty-nine cents of every dollar given to the Jimmy Fund directly supports cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber. Learn more about the impact of your giving.

Is the Sunrise to Sunset website secure?

Yes. All information submitted online is subject to the Jimmy Fund Privacy Policy. Please read the Jimmy Fund Privacy Policy before submitting any personal information.

How do my supporters get a receipt of their gift to use for tax purposes?

All gifts made online will receive an email confirmation, which includes tax information. Gifts of $15 or more made by check are acknowledged with a letter. For gifts made by check that are less than $15, the cancelled check will serve as your tax receipt.

I just made a gift. What will appear on my bank statement?

Your online transaction will appear on your credit card statement as: DANAFARBERJIMMYFND. If the transaction is pending, you may see PENDINGBB appear, which is normal. Should you have any questions regarding what appears on your statement, please contact Victoria Fox at 617-632-6603 or

I just made a gift online but did not receive my email confirmation. Can this be re-sent to me?

How do my supporters submit a matching gift form?

Every company has their own policies and procedures to determine a particular charity's eligibility to receive a matching gift. Your supporters' Human Resources departments will have more information about how to have a gift matched or you can search for your company to see if they provide matching gifts to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund.

If the original gift is made online, please have your supporter(s) print out the email confirmation received upon making the gift and mail it with the matching gift form to:

Can my supporters make gifts of stock/securities to support my fundraising? What about gifts made through Donor Advised Funds?

Yes. Your supporters can give gifts of stock or securities and we also accept gifts from Donor Advised Funds. To make a gift via an existing Donor Advised Fund, donors should utilize the Donor Advised Fund link on the “Give” page and reach out to their Donor Advised Fund contact to confirm. Donors should always be sure to note the gift designation (e.g. Sunrise to Sunset/participant name). Please email once this gift has been made so we can credit the correct participant.

I have a question about giving from my Donor Advised Fund using DAF Direct. Who do I contact?

What happens if there is inclement weather such as rain?

If the courses are playable, we will make every effort to proceed with the event as planned. In the chance of extreme weather, we will have plans in place to delay or modify the event. All golf participants will be emailed and updates will be posted on this webpage.

Can I have guests come with me to cheer me on at the event?

The event is for golf fundraisers only.

What should I wear? Is there a dress code?

Golf attire. No jeans allowed.
