TONI, 3
Toni was on a family vacation when she first experienced symptoms—she was unable to walk and very pale. When testing revealed it to be acute lymphoblastic leukemia, Toni started treatment at Dana-Farber’s Jimmy Fund Clinic, where her care team is helping her get back to the things she loves—swimming, reading, playing outside, dolls, and games.
DOUG, 62
In August, Doug celebrated six years cancer-free! He was treated for squamous cell sarcoma of the tonsil in 2018, crediting his recovery to family support and a relentlessly positive attitude. Today, Doug serves on Dana-Farber’s Board of Trustees and Investment Committee, stewarding funds to help other patients.
CAROL, 69
Carol was a patient at a neighborhood health center partnering with Dana-Farber’s Cancer Care Equity Program when she was diagnosed with chronic myeloctic leukemia. Carol has limited vision, so patient navigators arrange transportation and assistance at appointments. Carol refuses to slow down—she likes reading and writing and is working towards her master’s degree.
JAYLA, 18
Jayla was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma in April 2024 after noticing swollen lymph nodes under her arms and having difficulty catching her breath. As Jayla approaches the end of her treatment plan, she looks forward to returning to the things she enjoys—dancing and working as a dental assistant.
