I'm running my fifth Boston Marathon in April as part of the Dana-Faber Marathon Challenge Team! This will be my eighth total marathon and, frankly? I'm ready to get my wristwatch and retire.
AS SUCH, I HAVE SET MY FUNDRAISING GOAL AT $31,199. This is a very precise number that -- if we hit it -- will mean we have collectively raised $100K for Dana-Farber in honor and in memory of Ken Glansberg!!
My father was treated at both Beth Israel Plymouth and Dana-Farber and utilized the medications that were actually developed by Dana Farber's researchers for nine years. During this entire time, Dana-Farber provided a standard of care that went beyond "just" the life-elongating medications. They treated my father and our whole family with individual attention, with kindness and RESPECT every step of the way. I will be forever grateful.
And even more impressive and incredible? My father believed in this organization so much that he was actually a volunteer before he was a patient. For 18+ years, Dad poured his heart and soul into the Pan-Mass Challenge weekend every August as a highlight of his entire year. Whether he was feeling great or not-so-great, whether high or low, he was there and he was WORKING.
My father lived almost a decade of his BEST YEARS because people donated money at some stage that funded the medications he was on that are now part of standard Multiple Myeloma treatment (back in 2012 they were still brand new!) In fact, strides in areas such as this disease are ones that are highlighted over and over again as the main areas of progress. Strides are made every day, and the money we raise can truly make a difference!
