Running Boston & Chicago Marathons for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
On April 15, 2024 our Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team comprising of over 500 runners will be running the 128th Boston Marathon. I am back again for my 5th round with this team, because we all hate Cancer and share a common goal, "To live in a world without Cancer". To get there we all know that research is the key. The Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team runs and raises funds for this research with thousands of special people in mind. From Hopkinton to Boston, we carry thoughts of those people every step of the way. Since its inception, this team has run 33 marathons, raised over $120 million, funded the development of over 30 drugs and treatments, impacted the lives of millions of patients worldwide.
This team that I actually call my family, truly inspires me- everyone in the team has been impacted by Cancer; everyone has their unique, challenging individual stories, that inspires, motivates us to achieve our end goal. This family is in-fact a true epitome of, "what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger". Not only do all of us train to run 26.2 miles in the harshest weather conditions, but we also pledge to raise thousands of dollars to fund cancer research that will potentially save the life of your partner, your child, your best friend or yourself.
This year again I continue to be part of our patient partner program and I am so glad to report that my patient partner from last year, Chase who is now a 5 year old is in remission treatment for B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia all thanks to our fundraising which helped fund cancer research so patients like Chase get treated and cured. I am even more excited for 2024 as this year is the year when Chase will wave Cancer and its treatment good bye :). It will truly be an honor to run again for Chase.
This is what Chase's Mom, Kim told me: "A few decades ago Chase's cancer had a survival rate of under 50%, today thanks to our fundraising for Cancer Research it is greater than 95%. We now understand the impact that Dana Farber/ Jimmy Fund has on patients' and their family's lives and I cannot think of a more worthy cause."
So here I am, going on to run my 5th Boston & 2nd Chicago for the best team and cancer institute in the loving memory of my Mom, Kushal, Naresh Uncle, Matty Dubuc, and in honor of Chase and all our cancer warriors.
This year through your support, I have pledged to raised over $22K. One hundred percent of every dollar raised by the DFMC team supports the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research (https://danafarber.jimmyfund.org/site/SPageServer/?NONCE_TOKEN=A65371C20ED39F6F470A5F88B822D3B8&pagename=dfmc_barrprogram_cancer&fr_id=1930 ) at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. These funds are fueling some of today's most promising cancer research.
Thank you for your support! Together, we're headed toward the ultimate finish line: A world without cancer.
PS: If you don't mind, it will be my privilege and an honor to carry in-memory and/or in-honor names of any people you know who unfortunately have gone through a cancer journey on my singlet on marathon day. So please do share their names as well.
