In March of 2022, we lost Kelly Ann Machovec to breast cancer. Her untimely death has left a huge hole in our lives where this amazing and dedicated physician and wonderful human being used to be. Kelly was an avid runner and was passionate about running the 126th Boston marathon, with the Dana-Farber running team. She died two weeks before the race. I want to honor her by running the 128th Boston Marathon®.
The Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team runs and raises funds with thousands of special people in mind. From Hopkinton to Boston, those people are celebrated every step of the way. One hundred percent of every dollar raised by the DFMC team supports the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. These funds are fueling some of today's most promising basic cancer research.
People may remember me as an endurance runner. I literally stopped running the day Kelly died. I don't know why. I am starting from scratch to be able to run this race. I intend to run her planned time whilst telling as many people who will listen, her story.
Thank you for your support! Together, we're headed toward the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer.
