I am extremely excited to be running the 2024 Boston Marathon as part of the Dana Farber Marathon Challenge (DFMC) and would appreciate your support in reaching my $10,000 fundraising goal!
While running my first marathon is its own challenge, I feel particularly privileged to fundraise for Dana Farber. In April of 2023 my dad, Steve, was diagnosed with bladder cancer. Within a month he had a coordinated treatment team at Dana Farber from whom he has received life saving care including surgery, two rounds of chemo, and radiation. Thanks to the amazing doctors, nurses, researchers and staff at Dana Farber, all signs are positive for my dad’s recovery. My dad, my family, and I are incredibly thankful for Dana Farber, and it is incredibly meaningful for me to be able to give back and help other people and families facing cancer diagnoses.
Running in the Boston Marathon has been a lifelong dream that I never thought achievable. I began running In 2022 to lose weight after years at home during the pandemic and I haven’t stopped since. In October of 2022 I completed my first half marathon, raising $1500 for the DFMC in the Boston Half Marathon. Since then, I completed three total half marathons and lost over 75 pounds.
All funds—a full 100 percent—raised by DFMC benefit the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, widely recognized as one of the largest and most successful programs of its kind. Based on a rigorous and highly selective process, the program funds the brightest, most creative scientists making basic research discoveries that are transforming cancer treatment. Claudia Adams Barr Program Investigators have made numerous major breakthroughs resulting in improved survival rates and quality of life for thousands of patients everywhere.
