I would like to share a personal story with you. You probably don’t know this but when we were looking for a name for our engineering firm in 1997, Marathon Engineering and Environmental Services came as a result of my love of running marathons. Unfortunately, after the startup of Marathon, I developed a strange medical condition that prohibited me from ever running a marathon. Fast forward to this past summer, I had a medical emergency and the medicine that was prescribed for me actually corrected my medical condition. Now at the age of 70, I am going to take up the challenge of running a marathon, but not just any marathon. I am going to run the Boston Marathon.
But my challenge goes beyond just running the marathon, I am raising money for cancer research. My daughter works in cancer research in the field of multiple myeloma at Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston and presented me with this challenge. Dana Farber has a running team that has raised over $122 million for cancer research. For this upcoming 2024 Boston Marathon, they have established a goal of raising $7.85 million and I hope to be a part of this effort.
Thank you for your support! Together, we're headed toward the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer.
