I honestly can't believe I am doing this. I am a runner but by runner I am a casual (around Fresh Pond reservoir to get the dog some exercise) runner. However, it is more than exercise for me. I connect with friends and family on runs and the support and structure it gives me has helped me much more than the dog. Most of the people I run with have at some point in their lives run a marathon and I have always considered that a badge of honor that I had no intention of seeking. However, this year, I have committed to be brave and ask myself why not me as now I have a motivation bigger than myself pushing me along.
In August, I lost my mom to cancer. She was a two-time breast cancer survivor treated at Dana Farber in the 90s. This spring it was discovered that she was suffering from renal cancer that had metastasized to her bones and she entered hospice days before we were meeting with Dana Farber's palliative care team. I wanted Dana Farber to solve it for her again, but cancer won, and now I want to support Dana Farber research to help them solve it for all those suffering in the future.
On April 15th 2024, hundreds of Dana-Farber runners will take to the streets to participate in the 128th Boston Marathon®. The Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team runs and raises funds with thousands of special people in mind. From Hopkinton to Boston, we carry thoughts of those people every step of the way.
One hundred percent of every dollar raised by the DFMC team supports the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. These funds are fueling some of today's most promising basic cancer research.
Thank you for your support!
