To know him was to love him: John Freedman was the epitome of a God-loving, family-first, hardworking, upstate-New Yorker whom I was blessed to call my Papa. He taught me to love a sport where you hit a little white ball with a stick around a field, was always the funniest in the room, followed Syracuse basketball to the depths of despair, and was the rock of my family.
Cancer has affected too many families, including my own. I am humbled to be running for the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team to raise funds for the incredible work this organization does with the goal of having a world without cancer. One hundred percent of every dollar raised by the DFMC team supports the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. These funds are fueling some of today's most promising basic cancer research.
While my Papa never got to see me run, I know he will be with me every step of the way from Hopkinton to the iconic finish in Boston. Thank you so much for your support - hope to see you on Patriot's Day!
