I've had a dream of running for Dana Farber ever since I was a teenager in the picture above. My dad inspired me by running the Boston Marathon for 4 years to raise money for Dana Farber and raising $20,000 each year. I am seeking to follow in his footsteps. Unfortunately, too many people are affected by cancer and there are too many taken from our lives too soon. By raising money for Dana Farber, I want to make a direct impact in the groundbreaking research being done to cure cancer.
The Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team runs and raises funds with thousands of special people in mind. From Hopkinton to Boston, we carry thoughts of those people every step of the way. When I volunteered at the Dana Farber Marathon Challenge Pasta Party in 2024, there was a wall covered in flowers and butterflies, the "In Honor Garden".
Names of those who had been lost to cancer were written on a butterfly, symbolizing that although they are no longer physically present they are still with you and watching over you.
Names of those who have gone through or are currently going through a battle with cancer were written on flowers, representing love, positivity, determination, growth and hope.
On this page, I'd like to build my own In Honor Garden of my and your loved ones who I'll be thinking about every mile of this race.
Butterflies:
Auntie Sheila Jacobs, Ellen Lewin, Joe Robie, Ralph Scala , Selma Ostroff
Flowers:
Auntie Andrea Jacobs, Grandpa George Blum, Papa Dan Cohen, Morty Burman, Mary Ferriter, Jeffrey Cohen, Harriet Robie, Lisa Movitz
One hundred percent of every dollar raised by the DFMC team supports the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. These funds are fueling some of today's most promising basic cancer research.
Thank you for your support! Together, we're headed toward the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer.
