As a mother, as a biomedical professional, and as a friend/daughter/sister/aunt/niece to many of you, I'd like to share a story that we haven't told many people before now... in early 2024, our son, Hugh, was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 19.
Within a matter of days, Hugh was assessed by physicians and specialists in Boston, including at Dana-Farber, and he underwent surgery to remove the tumor.
While Hugh will continue to have follow-up scans for years to come to detect possible spread of disease, we want to express our gratitude to the medical professionals who helped our child and continue to care for him as a patient.
In April 2025, I will be one of hundreds of Dana-Farber runners who will take to the streets to participate in the 129th Boston Marathon®. I have run multiple marathons to date, but never have I run THIS marathon, one of the greatest in the world. I plan to train hard and leave it all out on the course next spring!
The Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team runs and raises funds with thousands of patients in mind. One hundred percent of every dollar raised by the DFMC team supports the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. These funds are fueling some of today's most promising basic cancer research.
While my fundraising goal is lofty, any donation you can make toward this cause is so appreciated!! Together, we're headed toward the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer and reprieve to those families affected by disease.
