Dear Family and Friends,
In 2024, hundreds of Dana-Farber runners will take to the streets to participate in the 128th Boston Marathon®. The Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team runs and raises funds with thousands of special people in mind. From Hopkinton to Boston, we carry thoughts of those people every step of the way.
There are many people in my life that have been affected by this horrific disease and I am especially honored to be running for three very special people. I am running for my Dad, who lost his battle with cancer 28 years ago. After a short fight, he was taken from us way too soon. I know he is missed by many and I am humbled to be able to run in his memory.
I am also especially inspired to run for my great Assumption College friend, Amy, who is currently battling courageously every single day. Amy was diagnosed with colon cancer 8 years ago. 2023 has been especially difficult for her as she has had to endure brain surgery, more radiation and bi-weekly chemo sessions. Amy is a warrior and despite the cards she was dealt she continues to be the strongest person in our 9. She is an incredible wife, daughter and sister and an amazing role model for her 8 year old daughter showing her what it means to never give up and always fight.
Lastly, I am running for my cousin Patrick who lost his long battle this summer at the young age of 56. Patrick fought hard until the end and I am honored to keep his memory alive by running this year. We miss your great sense of humor, your gift of gab, and your love of golf and the love you showed all of your family. We miss and love you Patrick!!
One final huge shout out to my patient partner Samara!! This 6 year old is a rock star and is now in remission!! I'm so lucky to be paired up with her this year again and run hard for her on Marathon Monday.
One hundred percent of every dollar raised by the DFMC team supports the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. These funds are fueling some of today's most promising basic cancer research.
As I train and run 26.2, my Dad, Amy, Patrick and Samara and so many others will be on my mind every step of the journey. Please help me to reach my goal. Together, we're headed toward the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer.
