In July 2019, I went to the doctor for what I thought was routine checkup. In all honesty, Katie forced me to go as I am sort of the “typical guy” who only goes to the Doctor if my arm is falling off. Long story short I left with my world turned upside down after being diagnosed on the spot with Cancer. Calling my Mom and Katie to tell them the news was by far the hardest thing I have ever had to do.
I had surgery the following week and have been going back to Dana Farber here in Boston every 3-6 months for scans, bloodwork etc. As of right now (knock on wood) I am happy to say that everything is looking great as I pass by the big 2-year mark.
I haven’t shared this news with many. I am not sure if this is because I was scared or didn’t want people to look at me differently but that’s starting to change. I am now at the point where I have decided to turn this bad and scary situation into a positive, ongoing success story that helps others - I have too many friends (not a big deal) and great people around me not to.
Dana Farber is amazing. The facilities, staff, level of care are all beyond incredible. Being a dad and seeing others go through this honestly kills me and it’s to the point where I have to do something.
Thanks to my good friends at BNEG (Joe Kane & Buddy Costa) the 1st ever PYNO (Party Your Nut Off) will be held on Saturday March 12th at one of their amazing venues. 100 % of the money raised will go to Dana Farber & The Jimmy Fund. This money will directly support patients and their families' fight against cancer - all while creating awareness and having an absolute ripper with my favorite people in the world, you!
No words could ever explain how fortunate and blessed I am to have the parents, family and friends that I do. Since day one and throughout this entire ordeal Katie has been my rock. This is honestly the last thing that she needed to deal with as a new mom but like everything else, she handled it perfectly. She was always there for me while being the best Mom in the world to Beckham, there really is nothing she can’t do. Speaking of Beckham, that little guy is my best friend and the best thing that has ever happened to me. I am so proud to be his dad and can’t wait to watch him become a big brother real soon!
If you made it this far, thank you, I love you…Let’s Party! #PYNO
