Conor H Dillon aka Shorty
DOB 10/19/81 DOD 4/20/00
Conor (my son) spent 18 years of his life in the hallowed halls of Boston Children’s Hospital. His adventures there are too many for me to detail here. Let’s just say his congenital defects both renal and GI required a lot of treatments.
In October of 98 he was diagnosed with ALL (leukemia) and began being treated at the Jimmy Fund Clinic, the pediatric arm of the DFCI, in conjunction with BCH. It is a short walk from one facility to the other.
Always he was held by the nurses, staff and docs in the highest regard. He was a warrior who had paid his dues. Fate had just handed him a tough road but he never got down or quit, ever.
I do this fundraiser row in his memory, but also in memory to the many fine people we met along his journey. Nurses, docs, therapists, other parents, and other children who carried medical burdens of their own. I love them all and always will.
In some small way I’d like to give something back. But also I see a catharsis for myself in organizing and performing this event. I’ll row a sanctioned half marathon (21,097 meters) on 2/25 in honor of the blessings bestowed upon me having Conor in my life.
All proceeds will benefit the Jimmy Fund and the DFCI. I have no costs, every dollar will go to the cause. The funds will go to research to help other children heal and become well. The Jimmy Fund Clinic is a very special place and a sanctuary for children with cancer.
Thank You!
