The Crush Colon Cancer Fund has been established by the Mulrenan, Holzman, Brandano, Miller, Haggerty and McDonough families that will specifically direct funds to colon cancer medical advances being developed at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI). Recently, our brother, Michael Mulrenan, has been diagnosed with colon cancer and is in the middle of a fight to beat this terrible disease. He is being treated at DFCI while his faith and the prayers and support, of what may be thousands of people, are engaged in this battle with Michael. While the work we support at DFCI may or may not be a part of Michael’s battle, the founding families have a long history with cancer, and decided it was time to engage directly in the fight against cancer with the aim of saving the lives of patients and help lessen the devastating effect it can have on families.
Our goal is to raise a minimum of $1,000,000 for colon cancer research and support of patients. At our first fundraiser - the Crush Colon Cancer Gala - which will be at the Boston Harbor Hotel on August 6, 2022, our goal is to raise $100,000 for colon cancer research at Dana-Farber. Each dollar raised at the fundraiser will be matched up to $50,000, so a donation of $100 will mean $200 goes to DFCI. The first match has already been prepaid to initiate the fund and is included in the Progress to Goal number. We request a minimum of a $100 donation from each attendee. Dinner will be provided, along with a cash bar, music and dancing. There will be drawings, auctions and other fun activities during the evening. Space for this first fundraising event will be very limited, so please register as soon as possible. You can learn more by sending an email to crushcoloncancerfund@gmail.com
All proceeds from the Crush Colon Cancer Gala will go directly to the Marios Giannakis, MD Lab at DFCI. The Lab is specifically focused on colon cancer research and has already developed an immunotherapy for colon cancer that is in clinical trials. Our funds will enable this trial and research to advance and has the potential to have a profound impact on the future of patients and their families.
