My name is Kevin McMahon, a Junior at Medway High School. I play goalie for the Medway Boys Varsity Soccer team. Medway Soccer and Medway Athletics have decided to host a fundraiser on October 24th against the Dover Sherborn soccer program. The Girl's Varsity Soccer game will kick off at 4:00 and the Boy's Varsity Soccer game will start at 6:00. Both games are on Hanlon Field. Both programs always appreciate your support and hope to see you there. Now, about why I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of the soccer program.
When I was in 8th grade my grandmother was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer at the age of 65. She was immediately put on Chemotherapy. The immense care of the nurses and doctors at Dana-Farber was very helpful for our family. The nurses were very nice to my grandmother and one even had a tattoo of Tinker Bell (which my Grandmother found as a sign because it was her favorite Disney character). As time passed it became clear that the cancer was found too late in her system and her health started to decline. Even when she was put on hospice care she was still upbeat and making jokes, which showed the type of person she was. Up until her final moments she was worrying about everybody else and not herself. She passed away 10 months later on October 9th among her family members.
I know this story is not unique to our family as many other people have had similar experiences in their own family. The program's goal is $3,000 which correlates to my grandmother's birthday, December 3. Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund are very helpful in patients' lives and were even very impactful in my life. The fight against cancer takes all of us and any donation amount will be much appreciated.
When you participate or make a gift, you’re directly supporting Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s mission to defy cancer through a unique focus on cutting-edge research and compassionate patient cancer care. You are creating opportunities for Dana-Farber leaders to enhance programs and initiatives that serve pediatric and adult patients and their families around the world. Dana Farber's care led to the remission of my Aunt Marianne's cancer earlier this year. We are forever grateful for their immense care.
Thank you for your generosity.
Together, we’re all Jimmy and we will defy cancer!
On behalf of Medway High School, Medway Athletics, and Medway Boys and Girls Soccer programs we would like to thank you for your donation and support towards this cause. Let us all band together and Kick Out Cancer!
