Brain cancers are devastating and often incurable tumors that afflict over
20,000 people in the United States every year. They occur in adults and in
children and comprise many subtypes including gliomas, meningiomas, and
medulloblastomas. Like other cancers, they are caused by genetic mutations that
lead cancer cells to grow uncontrollably. Our group seeks to understand these
mutations, how they predict the behavior of these cancers, and how they this
knowledge can be leveraged to find new treatments.
Our group consists of an interdisciplinary team of physicians, geneticists,
computational scientists, and biologists. We apply the latest genomic tools to
understand how brain cancers in adults and children form and learn to resist
treatment. Our discoveries have led to testing of new approaches to treat
people with gliomas, medulloblastomas, and meningiomas, and new diagnostic
tests for children with life-threatening brain tumors. We also develop
technologies used to study many other cancer types and have made significant advances
in the study of cancers of the uterus, prostate, and kidneys.
Your contribution can help propel this research forward. If you would like to
