Collin Trail's Story
Collin was an active 24 year old who had been working in the HVAC industry. After experiencing some symptoms, he had a colonoscopy in June of 2016 which revealed a colorectal tumor. Along with radiation and chemo for preoperative treatment, he underwent four major surgeries due to the fact that the cancer eventually returned
He received treatment in the Cleveland area for much of the time, but after some setbacks he chose to go to Boston to receive treatment at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Here he was treated with positlve results due to both the expertise and compassionate commitment of this hospital for four months. He was told by his oncologist there that he was not dying from cancer, but he was learning to live with cancer.
Upon returning to Northeast Ohio, Collin continued his treatment at a local hospital system. Unfortunately, he was not able attain positive results and his heath continued to decline. He passed away suddenly on April 14, 2021 from complications of subsequent radiation treatment used to eliminate the cancer that had reappeared.
Collin was very gregarious, and had an abundance of friends in the short time he was with us. This was manifested when his celebration of life service was attended by hundreds of people he touched. This was the most people to attend that church in its history.
While battling his disease, Collin's desire was to help other young adults battling this same disease. Although it is currently much less common in young adults, colorectal cancer has increased in this age group significantly in recent years.
