On October 12, 2021, we lost my beautiful mother, Alice, to endometrial cancer. Stage 4 high-grade serous uterine cancer, to be exact. For those of you who do not know, this is a brutal disease that seems to affect a smaller number of older woman, with very low survival rates and limited treatment options.
While I am thankful for the four "extra" years we had with Mom between her diagnosis and death, it simply wasn't enough. And I refuse to accept the fact that modern medicine couldn't help her. That's why we established the Alice M. Pacella Fund for Endometrial Cancer Research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA.
Dana-Farber provides expert, compassionate care to children and adults fighting cancer and is home to groundbreaking cancer discoveries. Since its founding in 1948, the Jimmy Fund has raised millions of dollars through thousands of community efforts to advance Dana-Farber’s mission.
While this fund won't bring my mother back, it may help to identify better treatment options, or even a cure, for other woman who are diagnosed with similar cancers in the future.
Please join me in contributing to this important cause.
Sincerely,
Mike Pacella (on behalf of the Pacella Family)
