My brother, Ben, was an inspiration in how to live life on your own terms. If he loved something he gave his all and if he wasn’t interested, he said why bother. Throughout his diagnosis and treatment for osteosarcoma, he was focused on how to live a full life and not miss out on the things someone his age would be doing. He got a dog, bought his first house, and travelled with me to Florida to see family and a few spring training games all while dealing with cancer. At the same time, he also focused on how he could help other people now and, in the future, dealing with cancer. Ben spoke to medical students and doctors about the unique experience of having cancer as a young adult, he advocated for the creation of more online support targeted at young adults and he participated in clinical trials focused on advancing treatment for future patients.
Following in Ben’s footsteps, Nick and my donation page will fund two areas that are important to us at Dana Farber. The first being the Young Adult Program focused on support and education specifically for people aged 18 to 40s and the second is osteosarcoma research. Thank you for your support.
