On November 17th, Lauren (my fiancè) and I signed up for our first Marathon in Austin, TX. We wanted to start 2024 off with something new, something challenging. In typical Albert and Kwasnowski fashion, we sent the registration link to our families (why not make it a family afair!?).
My Mom and Dad jumped on the bandwagon immediately and registered for their first 5k. They were ready to start the year with something new, something challenging. On November 26th, our world changed. My Dad started to experience stroke-like symptoms and was rushed to the hospital. The doctors found multiple tumors on the left side of my Dad's brain.
Over the following 4 weeks, he underwent two separate brain surgeries. His recovery following surgery has been nothing less than incredible. He went home 2 days after brain surgery! Unfortunately, life is not always fair and he has been diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma. He is home crushing his daily walks & protein shakes, surrounded by family, getting ready for the fight ahead. For everyone that knows my Dad, it's no surprise that he remains focused on his goal of completing that 5k on February 18th in Austin, TX. The road that lies ahead will be a long one, with speed bumps along the way, but I believe the combination of my Dad's intestinal fortitude, with the support of every single person he has touched throughout his life, will make a difference.
To all of our family & friends who have sent thoughts, prayers and love throughout this time, thank you tremendously. Our family reads every card and every message (and eats every piece of food dropped at the front door). It truly means the world to know the overwhelming support we have through this journey.
This all started from a desire to try something new, something challenging but sometimes life has other plans. Lauren and I will be running in honor of my Dad and this is one way for us to show support in his fight. Every dollar contributed to this page will be donated directly to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in support of my Dad and all of those affected by this unfair disease. Thank you in advance from the entire Albert family!
