WHY WE'RE FUNDRAISING WITH THE JIMMY FUND WALK TO FIGHT CANCER

I've setup this giving page in honor of a great man who left this world far too early. Dave Moynihan was my fiancée's father and lost his battle to advanced prostate cancer last January. In the two years during which I knew Dave, I came to regard him with a tremendous level of respect and admiration. He truly was one of the great people in this world whose infectious personality and generous character touched innumerable souls. He left a mark on many lives and is sorely missed by those who knew him. There simply are not sufficient words to explain the kind of man Dave was.

Dave's efforts to beat his disease were steadfast and resolute. Despite the advanced stage of his prostate cancer upon diagnosis, he never lost hope that he could overcome this insidious intruder. Toward the end of his battle, Dave visited Doctor Christopher Sweeney at Dana Farber, who specializes in the treatment of advanced prostate cancer. Though Dave had grown too weak for additional treatment, the encouragement Doctor Sweeney provided was evident in Dave's renewed enthusiasm after their meeting.

Most of us think that prostate cancer is very treatable. Indeed, treatment for early stages of the disease often results in remission. However, prostate cancer isn't always detected in its early stages. Once advanced, it becomes much more difficult to treat. Dr. Sweeney is one of a few select practitioners spearheading the research into the treatment of advanced prostate cancer and his efforts are providing timely, tangible results. His recent clinical trials using early chemotherapy in conjunction with hormone treatment have allowed men with advanced prostate cancer to live longer, more productive lives and keep their disease at bay - often for many years. Ultimately, Doctor Sweeney hopes to uncover treatments that can beat back advanced prostate cancer and send it into remission. He is, quite literally, endeavoring to find a cure.

For this reason I have linked my donation page directly to the funding of Doctor Sweeney's research initiatives. Every penny donated on this site will support his studies and clinical trials. I cannot think of a more immediate method of meaningfully contributing to something that matters. Please join me in my effort to help Doctor Sweeney push his research across the goal line.

To incentivize you to pony up your hard earned money, I will for the second straight year be growing an unsightly moustache for the month of November. That's right - the razor will not touch my upper lip for a 30-day period. For those of you who may remember my experience last year, there will be ample opportunity to ridicule me and my ridiculous excuse for a 'stache! Last year I raised just over $1000 for a great organization. This year, I've shifted my efforts to an even worthier recipient in Dana Farber and Doctor Sweeney. Please help me eclipse last year's total and to honor Dave Moynihan. Cheers!
