How You Can Help:
You can help by either donating directly or by participating in this year's
Charity Build. On October 2nd we will release an instructional video and free
plan showing you how to build this years project: Memory Fram. You can download
the plans on the main website at woodworkersfightingcancer.com. All you have to
do is build the project and either send us a photo or video by October 31st,
2017 or upload your finished project to the Giddy app! We will donate $1 to the
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute for each picture we receive (one per person,
please) and $5 for every video. If you upload your photo to the Giddy app, they
will match our $1 donation! We also have many corporate sponsors who are
donating $1 per submission. Submit your photos here:

Our Accomplishments & History:
In 2010 I became friends with fellow woodworker Duane Moore who was suffering
from pancreatic cancer. Nicole and I made a special trip out to Ohio to give
Duane some one-on-one woodworking instruction and it was a life-changing
experience for me. Inspired by Duane, I decided it was time for The Wood
Whisperer to get involved in a charity and what better charity than the fight
against cancer! Woodworkers Fighting Cancer was born out of a desire to rally
the online woodworking community around a common cause that affects all of us
in some way. I want woodworkers and non-woodworkers alike to be inspired by
what our woodworking community is doing and perhaps even join us in the fight!
Duane has since passed away and he will be missed. Without him, Woodworkers
Fighting Cancer would never have come to fruition.
2010 - The Wood Whisperer Guild managed to raise nearly $10,000 for the
American Cancer Society during one of our Guild Builds. The goal was to build a
Shaker Table, and I personally donated $5 for every table made. 67 tables were
completed and thanks to 158 contributors and numerous corporate sponsors, we
raised over $9000! The first video below was our original announcement and the
second is our celebration of the accomplishment.
2011 - $10,000 raised for LiveStrong. The goal this year was to build a rocking
horse from a free plan provided by our friends at WOOD Magazine. 120 rocking
horses were completed by the community and thanks to the numerous corporate
sponsors matching our $1 for every rocking horse made (+ 5% of every new guild
membership) & individual donations we raised almost $10,000!
2012 - $4600 raised for LiveStrong via a charity auction. I sold off a bunch of
unused tools and donated 100% of the proceeds (no project built)
2013 - $14,086.00 raised for CancerCare, a national nonprofit organization that
provides free, professional support services to anyone affected by cancer:
people with cancer, caregivers, children, loved ones and the bereaved. The
build project was an Artist Easel
2014 - $16,877.00 raised for Cancer Research Institute, the world's only
nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to harnessing the immune system's
power to conquer all cancers. The build project was a toy chest.
2015 - $21,803.00 raised for Cancer Research Institute, the world's only
nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to harnessing the immune system's
power to conquer all cancers. The build project was a kids table and chairs
2016 - $18,157.00 raised for the Jessie Rees Foundation, an organization whose
mission is to help encourage kids fighting cancer to Never Ever Give Up! The
build project was a Castle Bookcase
