Justin always had a crazy adventure brewing in his mind of what he could conquer next in life. He was a goal oriented person who worked hard and was always determined to cross the finish line. I want to keep that determined spirit going with a new crazy goal. I want to raise $25,000 to help Justin's oncologist, "Dr. J", research and find a cure for Histiocytic Sarcoma (HS). By donating to this designated fund in Justin's name, you could have a direct impact in furthering the research and knowledge on HS and possible treatments for future patients. I can't imagine a better way of honoring Justin's life and legacy than helping others fight this disease. Below is a brief description of what Dr. J has planned for the money raised in this fund:
To bring new therapies to patients facing rare blood cancers, Dr. Eric Jacobsen and his team seek to expand their efforts to classify and treat histiocytic sarcoma (HS). HS is a very rare disease of immune cells called histiocytes. HS may occur on its own or in association with other cancers such as lymphoma or leukemia. Dr. Jacobsen is the director of Dana-Farber’s Adult Histiocyte Disorders Center, a multi-disciplinary group of experts works together to better treat these poorly understand set of diseases. Funding for HS research is very limited because granting agencies like the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) as well as pharmaceutical companies, are focused on research that benefits larger cohorts of patients. Your philanthropy could help fill this gap and enable Dr. Jacobsen to accelerate studies to better understand and treat HS that have not been able to move forward due to funding limitations. These efforts may include collecting patient samples to develop a tissue bank of HS and related histocyte disorders, and secondly, launching a clinical trial to test the safety and effectiveness of therapies that may be particularly well suited for treating HS. Thank you for your generous support which will enable Dr. Jacobsen and the team at Dana-Farber to improve outcomes for patients and families facing this challenging disease.
I had dreams of planning a big celebration and fundraiser on Justin's deathiversary (yes, that is a real word in the grief world) to honor his life and legacy. However, that will have to wait until we can all share a meal, a drink and a hug together again. I hope you will consider donating to this very important fund (if your financial situation allows). I know times are tough and uncertain so I completely understand if you are not able to donate. In that case, I will ask you to raise your glass, say a silly joke, listen to a Sugar Hill Gang song, or remember a fond memory of Justin to to keep his spirit alive and moving. We appreciate your continued support and love.
The finish line is set. LET'S DO THIS!
Love,
Sarah, Miles & Declan Moore
To live in the hearts of those we love is never to die. The life of the dead is placed in the heart of the living. Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near; still loved, still missed and very dear.
