WHY WE'RE FUNDRAISING WITH THE JIMMY FUND WALK TO FIGHT CANCER

Annie McNamara Evans was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in 2016. It was shocking news, especially since her type of cancer usually occurs in older patients, not 25 year olds. She was immediately admitted to Dana Farber to start treatment, and the staff became like family. Annie handled every day with grace, bravery, and a smile on her face.

Throughout her cancer journey, there were many ups and downs, but Annie was able to marry the love of her life, Dan Evans, on September 29, 2018 . While she had suffered a relapse after a period of remission that previous March, the Dana Farber team worked hard to ensure that she could enjoy the wedding before she re-entered the hospital. Annie insisted that nobody know of her impending treatment, and the weekend was filled with incredible love and joy.

Annie’s cancer was as tenacious as she was, and after a second transplant, several experimental treatments, and multiple hospitalizations, Annie died on November 7, surrounded by our family - including those in the hospital who grew to be part of our family.

Thank you for considering donating money that supports research at Dana-Farber in Annie's memory, a fund created with the hope that other patients and families won’t have to go through this heartache in the future. 100% of the funds that we raise will go to Dana-Farber and will be divided between the research team working to find the cure Annie so needed and  support programs for the nursing staffs at Dana Farber and Brigham and Women's, who provide such amazing care and give so much to their patients and their families.

We appreciate any and all support.
