WHY WE'RE FUNDRAISING WITH THE JIMMY FUND WALK TO FIGHT CANCER

My two beautiful daughters, Alana, age 5, and Sydney, age 1 are the light of my life. When we welcomed sweet little Sydney into this world, our lives seemed so rich and blessed. The light was eclipsed a little over two months later when my doctor discovered a lump on my neck at a routine physical exam. The next few weeks were an uncertain, blurred, emotional whirlwind of appointments, tests, and ultimately a diagnosis of Stage IV squamous cell carcinoma in my right tonsil. I endured two surgeries and 7 weeks of radiation treatments to my head and neck. I was on a laundry list of medication and my ability to swallow was impacted, significantly affecting my nutrition. Pain, reduced energy levels, and fear stripped me of myself for a while and I had to learn to work my way back. Through the process, I was encouraged by the kindness and compassion and high level of expertise and professionalism shown by the doctors, nurse-practitioners, nurses, radiation therapists and numerous other specialists at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. They saw me through the most challenging time of my life and were able to provide the treatments to remove the cancer and encouraged my healing process.

I will never be able to repay my amazing care-team for what they have given me, another chance at life. That is why all of the generous donations made to Rob’s Screw Cancer Crew will be directed to my treating radiation-oncologist Dr. Jonathan Schoenfeld’s research-fund. This research-fund will help fund Dr. Schoenfeld as he forges forward researching how to treat head and neck squamous cell carcinoma in a more efficient and effective manner, thereby minimizing radiation therapy's nasty side-effects.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your time and generosity.

Love,

 Rob
