For the 21st consecutive year, members of John's Team will be participating in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk on October 4th. Although our team has significantly fewer walkers than our initial team of 113, our commitment hasn’t diminished. Over the years, people have asked why we walk instead of just writing a check and I suppose that every walker has his or her own reasons. Aside from being there to show support for other cancer patients and their families and friends, we walk to raise the funds needed to end this devastating disease. Along the route, we remember those who, thankfully, survived and those we lost.
Each year, the Jimmy Fund displays photos of its Heros along the route. These pictures serve as motivators to get us through the next mile and as we read the words on each of them as we pass by, we continue the tradition of gently touching each Hero’s photo as a sign of our love and support.
Our John participated, as a thankful patient, in this event and subsequent to his passing, John's Team was formed to follow his example of giving back. We walk in his memory.
