Team Nixon was established in 2018 to raise money for Cancer Research and Patient Care. It was formed 4 months after Nixon Clarke, a then 5yr old Australian living in Boston was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. As of May 2020, Nixon has completed his 144 week treatment and has entered the “survivorship” phase.
In 2018, our first year, Team Nixon had 61 members, walking in Boston USA and in New South Wales Australia - our virtual walkers. The team raised an incredible USD51,000 in its inaugural year. Last year in 2019, over 80 walkers joining in from Australia, UK and Boston with the combined total now over USD158,000
Money raised by Team Nixon in 2020 will be directed to Dana Farber Cancer Research and Patient Care Programs. Specifically, pediatric cancer research into the treatments to stop the rate of relapse into Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Team Nixon also have a longer-term ambition to build a School of Rock as Nixon found joy through music in his treatment, taking away much of the anxiety associated with something as scary as childhood cancer.
This year, given the Covid-19 pandemic, we are unable to host our normal fundraising events, so our goal is a more modest USD10,000. We understand that economic conditions are not what they were last year, however we still ask for your support since the facts remain, research into Pediatric Cancer is constrained by low funding rates.
Join us as Team Nixon to end the stranglehold cancer has on humanity and in particular our kids. This year, we are walking #ourWay – no matter where we are.
