This team walks to find a cure for SDS.
SDS is a genetically inherited disease that currently has no cure. Amazingly, Boston is home to the #1 facility in the world for SDS. Our walk hero- Anna- is a patient at Dana Farber and the Jimmy Fund Clinic downtown and currently a relatively healthy happy 6 year old, but that can change at any moment. Every October, pretty much right after the Jimmy Fund Walk, she has a bone marrow biopsy to make sure everything is OK as she is predisposed for developing leukemia. In past years, Anna has been admitted to Boston Children's a couple times a year with fevers. 2020 while it has been very challenging for everyone, medically it has been a wonderful year for Anna. Since March she has grown like a weed and hasn't been sick once. She was not admitted to the hospital once all year, and only had to go to the ER twice with fevers but was discharged as tests came back clear. One thing the pandemic has helped is that now almost everyone is taking extra precautions to not share germs.
Our team feels that our role is to spread the word about SDS and find ways to help more broadly. This is our third year fundraising through the Jimmy Fund Walk. To date we have raised just shy of $40,000.
