I've started team Walking With Love for the Jimmy Fund Walk on Sunday, September 22, and we are raising money that will directly support Dana-Farber's lifesaving research and patient care.
Cancer has touched all our lives in one way or another. We all know or have known somebody who has fought cancer. I see it with the patients and families who come to our clinic every day, but it hit far too close to home in recent months.
My mom's partner Dave passed away this past May due to complications from his lung cancer. It happened so fast that my head still spins, and I still struggle to accept that it's real. Dave was an amazing man. He was kind, gentle, thoughtful, caring... the first person to volunteer to help others. He was a genuinely good person. And he was taken away far too soon. Dave is somebody that I'll never forget, and I'm walking this year in his memory.
I named the team Walking With Love, because that's what we plan on doing. We're walking for those we care about in our lives. We're walking because we've loved people affected by cancer, and no matter what, we'll always carry that love with us. The world needs a little more love in it right now, and this is a good way to show it.
All the money we raise for The Jimmy Fund directly helps with patient care and research at Dana-Farber. I'm walking with the hope that some day, nobody will have to go through what Dave went through.
I'm aiming to raise at least $750, and anything you can give to help would mean the world to me. Please consider supporting this great cause here: http://danafarber.jimmyfund.org/goto/ryanwelsh
And if anyone is interested in joining team Walking With Love, we'd absolutely love to have you!
Thank you so much for the support!
