Our team is inspired by a superhero named Erik. Erik was two when he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). This type of cancer is most commonly diagnosed in children aged two through five and prior to the 1950s, it was nearly always fatal. Sidney Farber (the founder and namesake of Dana-Farber) was one of the first doctors to make breakthroughs in the fight against ALL in the 1940s through 1960s. The doctors of Dana-Farber have not only been researching the disease, but also treating the patients afflicted with this disease ever since. They have drastically improved both the cure rate of the disease and the quality of life of their patients. Erik (and many, many other children) are alive because of the research and care provided at Dana-Farber.
