I am participating for the 31st time in the 2022 Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai, taking steps toward the ultimate finish line: a world without ovarian or any other cancer.
Each year, approximately 22,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer in the United States and about 15,000 American women die from the disease. These numbers are underscored by the sobering fact that currently there is no reliable screening test for the early detection of ovarian cancer. The majority of cases (81%) are not diagnosed until the disease is advanced, at which time a woman's survival is significantly compromised. A woman's lifetime risk of developing ovarian cancer is 1 in 71 and the risk of dying from this disease is 1 in 95. OVARIAN CANCER BRIGADE has raised over $620K that has gone to The Dr. Ursula Matulonis Ovarian Cancer Research Fund at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Dr. Matulonis is dedicated to research, early detection, quality of life and ultimately and ideally-- a cure for ovarian cancer which if caught early enough is a highly treatable disease.
Thank you for supporting Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund's mission to conquer cancer.
