September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. About 22,000 women will receive a new diagnosis of ovarian cancer this year. Nearly 15,000 women will not survive . What’s most troubling is that the majority of cases are not found until the disease is advanced. I lost my best friend (my mom Kathleen) to ovarian cancer now nearly 5 years ago -- at Thanksgiving of 2013, after a very difficult 9-year journey. For as long as women and their loved ones have to face this cancer, and other cancers, I can’t just sit and do nothing. This is my 13th year walking 26.2 miles in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. My co-captain and I founded the Ovarian Cancer Brigade 7 years ago, and all our proceeds go directly to the Dr. Ursula Matulonis Ovarian Cancer Research Fund at Dana-Farber in Boston. Dr. Matulonis walks with us each year and meets with us to tell us what she’s doing with our funds.
In only 7 years our team has raised over $425,000. We consistently place in the top 20 teams out of roughly 900 teams for how much we raise. I hope you will support my cause for this year's walk taking place Sun, Sept 23. There are two ways to donate. Thank you in advance:
