This year marks 10 years since I lost my mom (my best friend) Kathleen after a difficult nine-year struggle with ovarian cancer. September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. This type of cancer ranks 5th in cancer deaths among women, accounting for more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system.
This is my 18th year walking 26.2 miles in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. I helped form the Ovarian Cancer Brigade, and all our proceeds go directly to the Dr. Ursula Matulonis Ovarian Cancer Research Fund at Dana-Farber in Boston. Dr. Matulonis walks with us each year and shares what she’s doing with our funds. Our team has raised over $750,000 to date, and last year we were ranked in the top 10 of over 850 teams for funds accumulated. We have our sights set on $1 million and we will reach that goal with your help. Not this year - but very soon!
I hope you will support me again this year. My walk is Sunday, October 1. I will be walking 26.2 miles alongside my team members and thousands of others in search of a cure.
