My journey to walking in the Jimmy Fund Walk has been a long and winding one. When I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in May 2015, I had no idea what the future would hold for me. Four years later, I’m overjoyed to share that I remain in remission after completing over two years of treatment at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
There were times when my treatment was extremely difficult, but through all the scary and stressful moments, I knew I always had the exceptional care and support of my wonderful medical team. They continuously showed the utmost dedication and compassion to me and my family, and they were with us every step of the way as I battled my illness.
Throughout my time there, I was treated with respect, kindness, and empathy by all of the support staff and Dana-Farber employees that I interacted with along the way. If you can have luck in a horrible situation, I feel extremely lucky and fortunate that I was able to be treated at Dana-Farber.
2017 was the first year I participated in the Jimmy Fund Walk, and it was an amazing day full of joy and hope, and it felt great to be able to celebrate completing my treatment with my family and friends and to give something back to a wonderful organization that has helped so many people and given so much to me. I walked again in 2018 and I can’t wait to participate this year for the third time with my team, the Acute Lymphomaniacs.
I know that most of us have been affected by cancer in some capacity, whether directly or indirectly. Raising money for cancer centers like Dana-Farber that excel in both groundbreaking research and world-class patient care is a wonderful way to contribute to the goal of a tomorrow without cancer.
I am participating in the 2019 Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai, taking steps toward the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer!
When you make a gift to my walk, you’re directly supporting Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s unique 50-50 balance between cutting-edge science and highly compassionate cancer care. Your support allows Dana-Farber leaders to enhance programs and initiatives that serve pediatric and adult patients and their families.
Thank you for supporting my participation in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. Together, we can conquer cancer!
