There are some good parts to the story. Posting this picture of Ilze, my wife of 27 years, and I is one of them, as it is one of my favorites. Remembering the wonderful care she received from the Dana Farber Cancer Institute is the other, as well as their support to me.
Remembering we lost Ilze not quite 8 years ago to brain cancer is the downer. The glioblastoma that she suffered with is still a cancer with more questions than answers, with many working to find those answers.
Now is my turn. I ask again for your support in my annual, now my seventh year of participating in the 2018 Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk, covering all 26.2 miles with our team, The Road Runner Russell's. Our team raised over $32k last year as we have added to our totals each and every year. Our yard sale, Loretta's fundraiser, and Padanaram bake sale have us headed in the right direction. US News and World Reports ranks the Dana Farber Cancer Institute as the top cancer treating institute in New England and 4th best in the country.
87% of the funds raised from the Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk goes directly to care and research for cancer treatment, and that includes all cancers. The balance is simply the expense to support this fundraising effort, which earned $8.7m last year.
Every amount counts. Please help.
