It’s hard to believe a year has passed, but we are preparing to once again walk in the 2018 Jimmy Fund Walk in honor of our daughter, Allison. The Walk will take place on September 23, 2018. Last year, Allie’s Team, The Acute Lymphomaniacs, raised over $23,000 to benefit patient care and research at the renowned Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston (“DFCI”), where she was treated for A.L.L., Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Almost 9 million dollars was raised for cancer care and research at Dana Farber by the thousands of participants in the 2017 Walk. Your support was an instrumental part of that amazing outpouring and we are grateful for your support!
Allie was diagnosed with Leukemia in May 2015, and went through two years of grueling chemotherapy. She battled through multiple complications and hospitalizations, with her wonderful medical team fighting alongside her. She completed chemotherapy a year ago, and continues to be closely monitored - Thankfully, she remains in clinical remission. She is working as a Civil Engineer and living her life again. We credit her wonderful Oncologist, Dr. Dan DeAngelo, and her entire medical team at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute with saving her life, and we will forever be grateful. Walking and raising money, 100% of which will benefit the amazing work at Dana-Farber, is one way we can give back.
Although Dana Farber is located in Boston, your contribution benefits all of us. DFCI is the setting not only for excellent patient care, but also groundbreaking cancer research. Many cancer patients are alive today as a result of findings by Dana-Farber researchers and many types of cancers are essentially being treated as chronic illnesses as a result of these breakthroughs. Dana-Farber researchers have also contributed greatly to the expanding area of Immunotherapy. Allie was the beneficiary of a past clinical trial led by Dr. DeAngelo, her Oncologist, that applied the lengthy and difficult pediatric protocol for her illness to young adults facing the same diagnosis. This protocol has now become standard treatment for young adults with this form of Leukemia. In our time at Dana-Farber, we have met patients from all over the US and the World participating in clinical trials and receiving treatment there.
Most of us have been impacted by cancer in some way and those afflicted by this devastating disease need our support. It benefits everybody to fund major cancer centers like Dana-Farber that offer wonderful patient care and do important research into the causes and cures of all types of cancer. Your donation is tax deductible and will advance the fight against cancer. Any support, no matter how small, will be most appreciated.
