Since my grandfather, Harold "Bucky" Rogers, lost his battle to acute leukemia on August 27, 2006, I have vowed to always raise awareness and monetary support of cancer research and treatment. This will be my 13th year participating in the Jimmy Fund Walk and over that time, I have continued to lose those closest to my heart. This year in particular, my mejor amigo, Carlos Padilla (pictured above), lost a two-year battle to prostate/bone cancer. Carlos NEVER gave up -- he continued to fight until the bitter end. His passion for life, family, friends, food, and baseball will never be forgotten. I am forever grateful that he took me to 12 Red Sox Home Openers and that his brother, Romeo, let me attend my 13th Red Sox Home Opener this past April. It was a bittersweet experience attending Fenway without Carlos by my side, but I know he was looking down upon those Sox because they came from behind to win it in the 12th.
I cannot thank you enough for considering supporting my team, and making a gift in honor or in memory of a "Carlos" in your life. The greatest gift of all is giving back so that life can be filled with more "Carloses".
With utmost appreciation,
