Since my grandfather, Harold "Bucky" Rogers, lost his battle to acute leukemia on August 27, 2006, I have vowed to always raise awareness and monetary support of cancer research and treatment.
This July, and in his honor, we welcomed my son, Stanley Harold Johnson, as the newest member of our team. And because I will forever be committed to this cause, I am choosing to join other Jimmy Fund walkers virtually on Sunday, September 22 for my 14th annual walk, by walking Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield, MA for the 14th time this month. Completing my 14th trip around the lake will total over 44 miles and over 14 hours which I have spent reflecting on those lives lost and those we are still lucky to have.
It's so important for me to continue the tradition of this walk because I, and my teammates have continued to lose those closest to our hearts. As you may recall, last year my mejor amigo, Carlos Padilla (pictured above on our walk shirts), lost a two-year battle to prostate/bone cancer. Our teammate, Brooke Henninger (pictured in the above middle), lost both of her adoring grandparents, Jimbo and Grammy Joy, over the last year to this dreadful disease. Our teammate, Jen Thomas Cloutier (pictured in the above right), also lost her grandfather, Donald Thomas, to cancer.
I cannot thank you enough for considering supporting my team, and making a gift in honor or in memory of a loved one in your life.
With utmost appreciation,
