This September 22nd, I will be walking all 26.2 miles in my 5th Boston Marathon-Jimmy Fund Walk and am asking for your kind and continued support! Last year, I walked in special honor of my Uncle Bob (Murray) who was fighting brain cancer, and sadly, died in October with his children and grandchildren surrounding him with love. I will continue to walk this year in memory of Uncle Bob...and all my family & friends who have lost their battle with cancer, especially Jeff, Mollie, Harold, Sue, Shirley, SueAnn, and Carl.
This year, however, I've been affected on another, very personal, level by this horrible disease. My dear husband, Glenn, was diagnosed with prostate cancer this past summer and is now being treated at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. How lucky we are to have this world-renowned research hospital so close to us! Unbelievably, that very same week Glenn was told of his diagnosis, my close friend, Janice, was diagnosed with breast cancer and is now undergoing her own chemotherapy and radiation treatment. What a week that was! The good news is that both Glenn’s and Janice’s cancers were caught early and both have great prognoses for a TOTAL cure. This amazingly hopeful news is due to the cutting-edge research that goes on every day at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute...and is made possible, in part, by your generous donations!
So once again, I’ll be lacing up my sneaks and preparing for those inevitable blisters while walking in honor of my family & friends who have lost their battle with cancer. But this year, I will also be celebrating my loved ones who are cancer survivors and going through their own cancer treatments (Go Glenn & Janice!). Thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting my fundraising efforts and I truly believe, one step at a time, that we can conquer cancer together!
