I am participating in the 2019 Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai, taking steps toward the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer!
My daughter, Annie, was shockingly diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer - one of the worst forms of the disease - in February 2016. Our family was devastated not only because of the diagnosis, but because have no history at all of the cancer. How could this happen to young, strong and healthy very young woman?
We scheduled a second opinion at Dana Farber Cancer Institute with oncologist Dr. Ann Partridge - a world-recognized expert in young women's breast cancer. We really didn't want to take treatment at Dana Farber - too big, a cancer factory, just a number - but figured it was right in Annie's backyard - why not. We were so wrong. Both of us were totally impressed with the personal attention, the comfortable atmosphere and the incredible staff and patient support. Once we met Dr. Partridge, our decision was a no brainer.
Annie was put on a trial drug that we 100% believe saved her life. We would not have been able to receive the drug anywhere else. We support Dana Farber with our Jimmy Fund walk every year with hopes that other families, like ours, will have the opportunity to benefit from the research and incredible care that we so greatly benefited from.
Today Annie is almost 3 years out from treatment. We celebrate each milestone reflecting on just how cancer changed our lives, yet in an odd way enriched it.
When you make a gift to my walk, you’re directly supporting Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s unique 50-50 balance between cutting-edge science and highly compassionate cancer care. Your support allows Dana-Farber leaders to enhance programs and initiatives that serve pediatric and adult patients and their families.
Thank you for supporting my participation in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. Together, we can conquer cancer!
Lots of love,
