Each of us has been touched in some way by that dreaded word CANCER. If you personally have not had someone tell you, “You have Cancer”, you are lucky. I have! However, there is not one of you out there that has not had a family member, loved one or friend receive that dreaded diagnosis. That prognosis stops you in your tracks. Some people beat cancer, but live with it mentally for years. Others are less fortunate and leave us too early. For thirty-two years I have been involved in supporting Dana Farber in its quest to find a cure for cancer through the Jimmy Fund. Over the years I have shared my personal tragedies with cancer which have involved parents, wife, daughter, numerous family members, friends and work associates. Last year as you know I walked for my wife, Penny, and daughter, Kimberly, who were diagnosed with Birt-Hogg-Dube' Syndrome (BHD) and still are being monitored by Dana Farber. This year my nephew’s wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. A good friend Larry Beatty a retired sergeant from the Northborough PD succumbed to his cancer fight. It is one continuous battle. I know I said last year it would be my last walk. However, being a cancer survivor and being healthy enough to help others less fortunate than me I felt an obligation to continue my quest to help Dana Farber find a cure and join others in fighting this battle. This year I am walking for Stacy LeDoux, Bob Braga, Dolly Woods, Jon Francisco and Herb King who are in their own battle now. When you make a gift to my walk, you’re directly supporting Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s unique 50-50 balance between cutting-edge science and highly compassionate cancer care. Your support allows Dana-Farber leaders to enhance programs and initiatives that serve pediatric and adult patients and their families.
I am participating in the 2019 Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk taking steps toward the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer! Thank you in advance for supporting my participation in the Jimmy Fund Walk. Together we can conquer cancer.
