My name is Nixon, I have just turned 7, I am an Australian but have lived in Boston USA for most of my life, and since I was 5, I have been fighting Leukemia. I am currently chasing my forever cure, but it is not easy, you see funding for research into pediatric cancer is poor, on average 4% of all cancer research dollars goes towards childhood cancers.
I am a skier and a golfer, as is my older brother Hamilton, we are also the biggest AC/DC fans in all of New England. We love both, despite my ongoing chemotherapy and Stowe Mountain Club where I do both sports are helping me in my pursuit this year to work towards a fundraising goal of $100,000 for Dana Farber Cancer Institute, during September – Childhood Cancer Awareness month.
#teamNixon was established in 2018 to raise money for Cancer Research and Patient Care. It was formed 4 months after Nixon Clarke, a then 5yr old Australian living in Boston was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. As of May 2019, Nixon is doing well and is in the second phase of his two-year treatment with Dana Farber and has just turned 7 years old.
In 2018, our first year, #teamNixon had 61 members, walking in Boston USA and in New South Wales Australia - our virtual walkers. The team raised an incredible USD51,000 in its inaugural year.
Money raised by #teamNixon in 2019 will be directed to Dana Farber Cancer Research and Patient Care Programs. Specifically, for 2019, pediatric cancer research for both Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and research into less favourable outcomes for disadvantaged children. #teamNixon also have a longer-term ambition to build a School of Rock as Nixon found joy through music in his treatment, taking away much of the anxiety associated with something as scary as childhood cancer.
Thank you for supporting our team in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. Together, we can conquer cancer!
